How Tadalafil Works

Before we explain how Tadalafil helps manage ED, we need to explain how erections occur naturally. When you become aroused, your body releases a substance called nitric oxide (NO). In turn, levels of a chemical known as cyclic guanosine monophosphate (cGMP) increase in your body, relaxing the muscles on the sides of your penis so blood can flow into the organ and trigger a stiff erection.

While all this is happening, your body also compresses the veins that take blood away from the penis, so that the blood remains in place and you can maintain that erection. Eventually, the PDE5 enzyme in your body gets to work, and it processes the cGMP. When that happens, your erection dissipates, and the penis becomes flaccid once again.

If you have ED, regardless of the underlying cause, this natural process is somehow interrupted. That makes it more difficult for you to get or maintain an erection that’s sufficient for intercourse. And that’s where Tadalafil, a PDE5 inhibitor, can help. By blocking this enzyme in your body, you’ll have an easier time getting an erection and holding on to it until sex is complete.

As a PDE5 inhibitor, Tadalafil blocks the action of PDE5, which is the responsible for breaking down food around the base of a sexual organ. That’s important because when PDE5 is broken down, it can lead to smooth muscle relaxation and increased blood flow into the penis to cause an erection.

When your body becomes more relaxed, it can get to the source of this food. That’s the end of this fact. And that’s just the start. Until then, you should take this medication as prescribed and space out any time during sex because Tadalafil can prevent an ED feeling from returning.

So what should you take?

If you have:

  • Heart problems
  • High blood pressure
  • Liver disease
  • Stomach ulcers or infections

  • Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS)
  • low testosterone levels
  • A bladder infection
  • A stomach ulcer
  • An enlarged prostate

  • Anemia due to a blood disorder (such as anemia caused by stomach ulcers)
  • Anemia caused by a blood disorder (such as a blood disorder) that’s caused by blood clotting
  • The following drugs are not recommended for men with ED because they can cause low blood levels of these blood disorders, such as but without first consulting your healthcare provider. If you are unable to get an erection that’s sufficient for sex, Tadalafil may be the treatment choice for you.

As with any drug product, there may be side effects. Generally, patients who experience side effects usually get them within 12 to 24 hours after taking Tadalafil. Side effects usually resolve on their own within 48 hours. Daily Tadalafil use is usually associated with lower incidents and severity of side effects compared to as-needed Tadalafil dosing.

Most common Tadalafil side effects

  • Headache
  • Indigestion
  • Back pain
  • Muscle pain
  • Flushing
  • Stuffy nose

Some more serious side effects have been reported. While rare, it is important to stop taking Tadalafil and contact a doctor right away if any of the following occur:

  • An erection will not go away (priapism). If you have an erection that lasts longer than 4 hours, get medical help right away. If not treated right away, priapism can permanently damage the penis.
  • Sudden vision loss in one or both eyes. Sudden vision loss can be a sign of a serious eye problem called non-arteritic anterior ischemic optic neuropath (NAION).
  • Sudden hearing decrease or hearing loss. Some may also have ringing in the eyes (tinnitus) or dizziness.

Possible drug interactions

Some drugs/medications may interact with Tadalafil. You should not take Tadalafil if you are taking nitrates (such as nitroglycerin tablets or patches) because the combination of these with Tadalafil could significantly lower blood pressure and lead to fainting or even death. Additionally, do not take Tadalafil if you are taking Cisapride, other ED medications (e.g. Viagra), Adcirca, or Riociguat.

On your intake form, please be sure to provide AgelessRx with all medications, herbs, non-prescription drugs, or dietary supplements you use. Also be sure to report if you smoke, drink alcohol, or use illegal drugs, as some may interact with your medication.

Other important safety information

Patients who have a condition called “left ventricular outlet obstruction” from valvular problems or heart muscle enlargement may get side effects such as fainting or light-headedness. Because patients with recent heart attacks or stroke, heart pains (angina), heart failure, uncontrolled blood pressure or uncontrolled irregular heart beats, severe liver disease, and retinal eye problems have not been studied, Tadalafil (Cialis) is not recommended for these patients. There may be rare occurrences of priapism or painful, prolonged erections. This is a serious condition that requires immediate medical attention. Patients should seek prompt medical attention if their erection lasts longer than four hours.

After taking a single tablet, Tadalafil can remain in the body for up to two days. It can remain longer if patients have problems with their kidneys or liver, or they are taking certain other medications.

We have not received any reports of sudden vision loss in one or both eyes since 2008. However, there is a possibility that sudden vision loss could be a result of a serious eye problem called non-arteritis-odding NAION (NAION without aura). Patients with a history of NAION should seek prompt medical attention.

Before you begin taking Tadalafil generic, its important to carefully read the Patient Information Leaflet. Make sure to review it each time you get a refill.

Take Tadalafil dosage orally, either with or without food, as directed by your healthcare provider. Tadalafil dosage should not exceed more than once a day. Swallow the tablet whole. Do not split it or crush unless advised.

Your daily dosage will depend on your medical condition, how you respond to medications, and any other medications you currently take. Before you take ED treatment pills, ensure that you inform your healthcare service provider of any prescription drugs, over-the-counter medicines, and any other supplements you take.

If you are also using finasteride alongside Tadalafil to treat any symptoms of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), discuss the duration of treatment and dosage you will need with your healthcare provider.

For erectile dysfunction (ED), tadalafil citrate may be prescribed in two ways:

  • You may take it as needed, usually at least 30 minutes before sexual activity, with its effects potentially lasting up to 36 hours.
  • Your doctor may recommend taking generic Cialis regularly, once a day.

Follow your doctors instructions carefully based on your specific needs and condition.

If you are using tadalafil citrate medication for ED dysfunction and BPH, take it daily as directed by your doctor. To ensure you do not forget, take it at the same time each day.

Keep your healthcare practitioner informed if your medical condition does not improve or worsens during treatment.

Tadalafil citrate, also known as Cialis, is a medication primarily used to treat erectile dysfunction (ED) and certain other conditions related to sexual stimulation.

Tadalafil citrate may be taken with or without food, either as treatment or daily as directed by your doctor. To ensure your safety and in case of reduced efficacy, always take your tadalafil medication consistently, carefully, and under the supervision of a medical professional.

Most men have anosclone or other non-life-threatening conditions that can cause difficulty in breathing, or swelling of the face, lips, throat, and tongue, with or without redness and ulcers, which can affect the throat, lungs, eyes, and other parts of the body that may cause difficulty in breathing or swallowing.

Tadalafil citrate may cause dizziness, fainting, visual disturbances, ringing in the ears, visual field problems, hearing changes, and low blood pressure.

Tadalafil may rarely cause a receding hairline or thinning of hair and it is recommended that you exercise caution and only take medicines found in the approved medicines section (such as Cialis and sildenafil) or in some other FDA-approved medication.

Tadalafil may not be suitable for everyone.

Interactions

A. Top Drug-Drug Interactions:

1.Nitrates (e.g., nitroglycerin, isosorbide dinitrate): Cialis and nitrates both lower blood pressure. Taking them together can cause a significant and potentially life-threatening drop in blood pressure (hypotension), leading to dizziness, fainting, or even heart attack or stroke. It is contraindicated to use Cialis with nitrates or recreational "poppers" (amyl nitrites).

2.Alpha-blockers (e.g., prazosin, terazosin, tamsulosin): Both Cialis and alpha-blockers relax blood vessels, which can lead to excessive blood pressure reduction when used together. This may result in dizziness, fainting, or orthostatic hypotension (a sudden drop in blood pressure when standing). If needed, your doctor may adjust the dosage or recommend spacing the medications.

3.Other antihypertensive drugs (e.g., atenolol, propranolol, enalapril, lisinopril): Cialis can enhance the blood-pressure-lowering effects of these medications. While this interaction is usually less severe than with nitrates or alpha-blockers, it can still cause dizziness or fainting in sensitive individuals. Close monitoring of blood pressure is recommended.

Other Drug-Drug interactions:

  • Ketoconazole, itraconazole (used to manage fungal infection)
  • Protease inhibitors (used to manage HIV infection) Ex. ritonavir, lopinavir
  • Phenobarbital, phenytoin, carbamazepine (medicines used for fits)
  • Rifampicin, erythromycin, clarithromycin (medicines used for bacterial infections)
  • Other medicines used to improve blood flow to the penis (Ex. sildenafil)

B. Drug-Food Interactions:

Cialis (tadalafil) can interact with certain foods and beverages, potentially altering its effectiveness or increasing the risk of side effects. Here are the key drug-food interactions to be aware of:

  1. Grapefruit and Grapefruit Juice: Grapefruit can increase the levels of tadalafil in your blood by interfering with its metabolism. This may amplify side effects, such as headaches, dizziness, or low blood pressure. Avoid consuming grapefruit or grapefruit juice while taking Cialis.
  2. Alcohol: Drinking alcohol with Cialis can enhance the blood pressure-lowering effects of the medication, leading to symptoms like dizziness, lightheadedness, or fainting. Limiting alcohol intake is recommended while using Cialis.
  3. High-Fat Meals: While Cialis can be taken with or without food, consuming it with a high-fat meal may delay its onset of action. Opt for lighter meals if rapid effectiveness is needed.
  4. Caffeine: Though not a direct interaction, combining Cialis with high caffeine intake might worsen side effects like headaches or increase heart rate in sensitive individuals.
